Hans is just finished uploading a new beta that has two fixes in this area: * there was a bug in the TEXMFCACHE defaulting, making it ask strange questions if TEXMFCACHE was not set in texmfcnf.lua. * it comes with a variation of the symlink-discovering code I posted earlier.
