Hi,
Considering how to solve the bug written here:

We thought that best would be to unify the assignment behavior according
to Product menu.
It means that variant articles will not be automatically assigned to
Category, when Parent article is assigned in AJAX list.
But still you can assign variant articles to category as before, when the
option "Display Variants in Assignment Lists in eShop admin" (in System
settings) is ON.
Please let us know, if such behavior would harm something.
