Could you describe your current hardware configuration and the visits /day? And the amount of products/categories? When we encountered such problems we just upgraded to the next managed server version - and everything was fine again. Before the last upgrade we had an excecution time of perhaps 10-30 s, after the upgrade we had 1,5 s.
