Hello Marc,

you're right. OXID projects is not a perfect solution for translations. But
before, we basically had two or more places were language translations went:
OXID projects SVN and OXIDforge wiki were you had to copy - paste entire
files... The less technical people didn't even know how to handle the wiki and
gave up translating, copy - pasted in a wrong encoding or simply uploaded files
to the forums. Also, most of the translators so far had a technical background.
The others mostly posted via the forums that they don't know where to upload
their files...

Despite this, I reckon the translation will become more complex in the future
thinking of the setup routine, demo data for products or the CMS data, where
you would need sql files as well.

Of course, I'd really like to have an inline translation tool, gettext or
similar support. If somebody of you guys had a great idea - your help is
appreciated!

Regards
Marco

Subject: Re: [oxid-dev-general] New blog post: Language Translation Files Moved
to OXIDprojects

Hi Marco

Thanks for informing us about this.

Though I am personally a big fan of law (rules) and order (structures) within a
FOSS project I fear that the use of a SVN repository as the place to store and
get language files from might hinder or at least introduce some insecurity to
the less technically adepted people.

And about the alternative of sending the translations to your email isn't the
ideal solution.

Let's assume a total new member of our fine community wants to do a translation
which he wants to share with us afterwards.

What are the steps or better said where and how do you lead this member?

I ask this question because the commitment of such people can rise or fall with
the leadership, starting with such simple tasks.
