Hi Tomas,

i think it’s more like the other way around, id/parent is used for building
tree etc. and nested sets only in some special cases.

Regards,

Frank

Hi Joscha,

Yes, technically category parent id and sorting information is not needed
for nested set functionality, so this information is redundant and is
probably never used when building the tree and selecting categories. However
it could be used for more simple data import. It is easier to define
child-parent relation over parent id field in 3rd party system and then
import it to eShop. Parent id is also useful in cases when nested set values
are screwed for some reason and you need to rebuild the tree completely.

Ok, seems like OXID is NOT using nested sets?!

The question is more like: Why do we have left+right although we use
ParentID and Sorting?
Isn't that a bit too redundant?

Regards,
Joscha

Hi All,

i think nested sets are not used for building the categorytree, it’s built
from id/parentid.

And the sorting becomes easier, because every category with oxparent =
'oxrootid' has oxleft=1 at the moment.
