for me it works... You can have a look at https://github.com/digidesk-media-solutions/oxModernizr there is a files array, too.
The only "problem" I know is that it is required to have an index in the extend-Array.

did anyone has expect some problems with the files array in metadata for modules ?
Currently i face the problem that my class in the files array can't be found from the oxid autoloader.
Now my workaround is to place a file in controllers/admin which points to my module class,
but that can't be a appropriate solution for this.
I use the Enterprise Edition Version 5.0.3_52468
