Here's a preliminary patch for this issue. Left to do is the actual overlay
display (see comments in patched {{WebsiteTreeHandler}}).
If jQuery is available, we could perhaps use
[thickbox|http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/] or [fancybox|http://fancybox.net/].
