Sofia, Richard provides several good points. In general, the abstraction abilities of most CMS to allow laypersons to rearrange screen layout is woefully lacking. I don't think Drupal's templating/theming is as poor as Richard suggests, but it's at least well consistently/publicly/professionally documented/supported compared to Magnolia (from what I'm finding).
A few years back Drupal seems to have reached a point that it use is seemingly mainstream rather than niche. Whereas web publishing platforms such as WordPress have been forced to go from the blog publishing roots to attempt to be more web CMS-like, and where CMS such as Joomla are more obtuse to use than Wordpress, Drupal has undergone some changes to approach a better separation of concerns, better usability by administrators, and more consistent APIs for programmers. In addition Drupal user forums have a ton of answers if you can't find them in books (Books 24/7 or BooksSafari or Amazon.com or BN.com), as there are dozens of books published about administering drupal, programming Drupal, and coding themes for Drupal. Zero published books for Magnolia (ok, I believe there's one of their online outdated and piecemeal doc ), as I'm painfully finding out during my company's evaluation phase of the CE 4.5.4. Drupal is used prominently by all branches of the federal government in the United States, so not just small companies as Richard was likely unfamiliar with. More here: http://drupal.org/case-studies However Drupal does not have some of the flexibilities that Magnolia provides out of the box, but the frustration factor I'm experiencing w/Magnolia is making it hard for me to justify a recommendation to my management team despite my best efforts to bend Magnolia CE. That's my experience. 4-years w/Drupal at former employer. 4-weeks Magnolia at current employer. And I haven't given up on Magnolia either. shane -- Context is everything: http://forum.magnolia-cms.com/forum/thread.html?threadId=8784fb0e-0c8e-4a27-966f-e41398bc7334 ---------------------------------------------------------------- For list details, see: http://www.magnolia-cms.com/community/mailing-lists.html Alternatively, use our forums: http://forum.magnolia-cms.com/ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <[email protected]> ----------------------------------------------------------------
