When I switched the author instance into public, the css files and the js files from my templates failed to load. However they were loading fine from the samples templates. Then changed the magnolia.develop property into true and everything was ok. My templates loaded just fine. Is there something I need to reconfigure in my modules (containing my templates) in order to use this "improvement" feature?
