Opus is certainly capable of live music. There are a couple of things affecting your use here: If you're recording music with a microphone, make sure it's stereo and supports 48 kHz recording. In Firefox we assume a mono stream is going to be voice, and tune the codec accordingly. This will reduce the clarity of music. If you send a stereo stream to the peer connection object, you'll get better quality. It looks like we run the opus encoder at a fixed rate of 64 kbps. That's plenty for voice and will be fine for some music, but low enough to hear artefacts with some music, especially with headphones. Generally we've concentrated more on the voice use case. I hope performance with music transmission will be optimized as our implementation matures. If you find tweaks which improve quality, please do let us know so we can incorporate them. -r _______________________________________________ dev-media mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-media
