I've filed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1004061 and one more bug there to try to raise attention to the doorhanger UI issue.
That seems like the right place for a fix, as I don't see us adding ways for web-apps to browser-prod users, for reasons stated by others here.
