Mele - regarding your prob with the Betrusted certs, you may want to check that you haven't config'd FF to use OCSP for certificate verification.
If you have the browser set for OCSP verification but the cert can't be verified in this way, you'll get the failure you report. Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Security and click the Verification button. I'd recommend either option 1 (turn off OCSP verification) or option 2 (only use OCSP for those certs that support it). Hope that helps.
