Review comment:
The new getRemotingConnection isn't needed.
As you are simply wanting to ensure a single consumer, you should simply be
closing the consumer, this will then mean all bits around closing a consumer
are safely done (e.g. transaction safely rolledback), and also other
notifications sent, broker plugins invoked etc etc
