Hi all,

The vote on the name of the method that spreads an iterable over a fixed number
of mapped task instances closed on Monday 28 September 2026 at 12:00 CEST.
Thank you to everyone who voted.

First preferences:

spread: 4 votes, 3 binding

- Shahar Epstein (binding)
- Jarek Potiuk (binding)
- Przemysław Mirowski (binding)
- Constance (non-binding)

batch: 1 vote, binding

- Ash Berlin-Taylor (binding; Ash also said he could get behind spread)

Amogh Desai voted +1 (binding) for spread after the vote closed. It is not
counted, but it does not change the outcome.

spread holds a majority of the first preferences, so no runoff round is needed.
The method is named spread.

The keyword is across, as in task.spread(across=N), as Amogh and others
preferred it to across_n_tasks. It is keyword-only: spread(17) is rejected, and
the old size= raises a clear error.

On the feature name: Constance and Amogh suggested keeping the earlier feature
name, and Ash suggested "Batched Mapped Task". The ballot covered only the
method name, so I kept the feature name in line with the method: "Task
Spreading" for .spread(), next to "Iterable Tasks" for .iterate(). This keeps
the docs and the API using the same word. If anyone feels strongly otherwise,
please say so in the AIP-104 vote thread, which I am restarting now here:

https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/7c1nwwl0rm047hc19fkz6ql2rgbz5chh

The AIP-104 page has been updated to the new name:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/spaces/AIRFLOW/pages/421954527/AIP-104+Iterable+Tasks+IT+and+Task+Spreading+TS

The implementation is in https://github.com/apache/airflow/pull/73688, which is
stacked on https://github.com/apache/airflow/pull/62922.

Thanks,
David
