1) dealing w/ Borland != dealing w/ StarBase (ecch, formal channels...)  It's 
confirmed though - StarGate is not freely redistributable and must be 
licensed.  And the redistributable component for Windows is an Installer 
(StarGate-runtime.exe), not just the JAR.

2) i'm not going to say why, but I really thought running on an MS JVM would 
work w/o problem ("won't say why" #2 - System.getenv() should be brought 
back...)

3) eric, FYI i have same setup (copy of JAR + DLLs not in any path) and 
everything works.  I'm just now realizing a slight subtlety (or a 
big, "flashing sign" difference depending on take..) between your original 
report and the stcheckout one (I ran with and based everything on the 
latter).  Give me a lil' bit to check on something...
