What language are trying todo this? Do want to reduce the pixel-size when importing or only when exporting?
Why do I ask. If you are using e.g. Java and you want to reduce pixel-sizes you may use another lib or Java itself and hand-over the reduced image to OO? Just a thought if OO doesn't provide what you want.
