 Actually it's not deprecated, but depends on the runtime environment
your extension needs. If the Object Inspector works fine with OOo 2.0.3
(and earlier 2.x.y), then .uno.pkg is the format of choice. If it
requires at least OO.o 2.0.4, then you must use .oxt.

...and the versioning and forthcoming update features are backwards-compatible, so you can even add them (i.e., some description.xml file) to a .uno.pkg (where they only take effect in later OOo versions, of course). Just FYI.
