I just noticed that the Developer Guide link on

Version, is there a reason for this?

Those pages just have not yet been updated.

ok!

I also noticed that chapter/section numbers are now missing from the
Wiki Developer Guide Version while in other documentation there is still
information like "as described in chapter 6.1.6 of the Developer's
Guide" or similar. Is it possible to restore section numbering?

Example:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/Article/Implementation_of_the_Dispatch_API_In_SFX2

This is something we tried find a nice solution to. Wikis are not
perfect for books. Each page is essentially independent of all other
pages. We tie all pages in a "Wiki book" together with a template that
provides that Table Of Contents navigation on the right hand side.
There is no automatic chapter numbering mechanism available in MediaWiki.

We can manually add in section and chapter numbering, but then we are
faced with a huge maintenance problem. For example, if someone adds a
new section at 6.1.7, and a new chapter between chapters 8 and 9, you
would have to manually renumber ALL sections in chapter 6 from section
6.1.7 to the end, and then manually renumber ALL chapters and ALL
subsections from chapter 9 to chapter 20. This could mean having to
edit 500 or more Wiki pages (there are approximately 860 content Wiki
pages and about 40 supporting Wiki template pages for the Developer's
Guide).

So, unless someone knows of an extension that can be used to reliably
manage the chapter and section numbering, the answer (for now) is no, it
is not possible to restore section numbering. Any external references
to the Developer's Guide will have to refer either directly to the Wiki
page, or to the section title/name.

well I understand the unbearable maintaince overhead of having section and chapter numbers in the wiki.

Maybe hey well the solution than is maybe just as simple as to replace that

as described in chapter 6.1.6 of the Developer's Guide

on
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/Article/Implementation_of_the_Dispatch_API_In_SFX2

with something like

as described in the section titled "Dispatch_Framework" of the Developer's Guide

ideally making the section title there a Wiki Link to

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/OfficeDev/Dispatch_Framework

and to do similar to other occurances of such former simple textual chapter+section number references in the Wiki and on OOo HTML pages.

Now than there would be just the problem to find and replace those once.

Kind regards,
Bernd Eilers
