[an aside] Having a trademark/API discussion isn't being unreasonable, but we agree entirely that it's not an entire solution. A multi-pronged approach to API compatibility is goodness, along the lines of other discussions about .0-dev ./buildconf and ./configure warnings and other helpful cautions to our users.
