Dear All

For your information, here are my latest findings:

1) I have discovered that the argouml website already offers a Mac OS X package to download. However, it is not clearly labelled. For example ArgoUML-0.21.3.app.tgz is labelled as " binary distribution, including all libaries". To be precise it is a Mac OS X application bundle with all libraries. It is not clear to me how this package is created but I assume there is a script or something because the 0.21.3 release from Wed 7 June includes the Mac OS X application bundle.

2) The Mac OS X application bundle works on my Mac at home but not on my development machine. The former has Java 1.5.0 whilst the latter has Java 1.5.1. I suspect there is a bug in Apple's Java 1.5.1. I will investigate this further and report to the list. I don't believe there is a problem with the XCode IDE. I've set up a project to use Ant to build ArgoUML. I see the same bug in both my locally built application  and the precompiled application bundle downloaded from argouml.tigris.org

Best regards

Hello Neil!

I am very flattered to notice that ArgoUML seems to be the only feature project at the web site you are referring to.

The question is where you want to go with the packaging work? If you want to continue to build and distribute Jar Bundler versions of ArgoUML, then you should join the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list where new releases that are ready for packaging are announced. Currently it is very much just me that does all the releasing and packaging while changing the process all the time ;-) and you could help by discussing this to get the requirements right for an external packager.

If you want to continue to build this but are not keen on distributing them, we should fix so that they can be published to be downloaded from the argouml-downloads project.

I don’t know very much about Mac OS X or X code so I can’t help you there. We are currently very focused on Eclipse and have the preferred Eclipse development environment committed in our cvs repository so I hope that is not the problem. If you plan to work with the source code, you should download from the cvs repository directly. Hopefully there is such a feature in X Code or you will need some cvs client for your Mac.

Good luck!

Subject: [argouml-dev] ArgoUML on Mac OS X

Dear ArgoUML Developers

This is my first post to the list so no flames please!

I have successfully packaged ArgoUML as a Mac OS X application using Jar Bundler and started a user evaulation of the application (V0.21.2 which dates from Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 3:24:56 AM) on Mac OS X Version 10.4.6.

In parallel to the above I have downloaded the source, compiled it and set up an X Code project with debugging support. Unfortunately, in the process (which included updating to X Code 2.3) the Java environment has been changed and neither the application compiled from source or packaged from the precompiled JARS will run on my system Frown

A full investigation is under way.  Any hints, tips, questions or discussion will be warmly received. For updates watch this space or check out the following webpage:
