I attempted to get an idea of when JDK 1.4 was to begin the end-of-life
but I was unsuccessful.

The reason for this is that the current Checkstyle settings (default
coded into the tests) signals errors for alternative 1. With your
permission, I plan to fix the checkstyle configuration to allow the
alternative 1 (and not alternative 2).

The question came up because Ion Savin has started using generics in
argoprint and used the syntax in alternative 1. When I enabled
Checkstyle in the argoprint project with the argouml settings it was
very inconvenient.
