No, names must be unique in a namespace.  That's the whole point of it.

That sounds like a reasonable interpretation.

I think multiple base classes for stereotypes were new in UML 1.4, so
this may be an upgrade to the default profile that got missed.  It
might also just be a plain old bug (well, actually it sounds like a
bug either way).
