Tom, these are the commands I executed to get "aria --version" working:

sudo pip install --upgrade setuptools
sudo pip install apache-ariatosca[ssh]
...
aria --version
v0.1.1
...
git clone https://github.com/apache/incubator-ariatosca; cd
incubator-ariatosca
aria service-templates store examples/hello-world/hello-world.yaml
my-service-template
