is it only me, or does someone else also think it is a bit odd that Apache is developing dotNet apps and frameworks?
some people do agree, many do not :D
IMHO, dotNet is definately a threat to the whole OSS movement and Linux+Java in particular, as it is designed to crush the whole server-side stronghold of this combo.
What is so interesting about .Net is that it is essentially an open standard (some parts still in review by standards bodies) with one vendor currently supplying an implementation (MS), and an open source project well underway to do the same (mono).
.Net is simply way more open than Java. In a few years, you'll be able to pick your deployment hardware, your base software platform, your development language and tools, and for each of those, have a valid open source choice.
If ASF successfully brings dotNet "products to market", it will add fuel to the dotNet fire, and one day M$ will have consumed us all in their monopolistic grip. Is this something we want?
I really doubt that will happen :D
cheers!
