I think the main difference between Sun and MS - regarding it's
developers - is that Sun doesn't understimated they devs. Sun talks
about design patterns while MS talks about DataSets. Meanwhile the
Apache effort to bring to MS land nice pieces of software demonstrate
two things:

- Java is not a religion in Apache
- Help good developers (in both worlds) to delivery good pieces of
software using Apache frameworks and apps

Changing the subject for a while, some guy talked about how Java can be
considered a SUV programming language. I think the most part of these
artice is a fallacy, althrough I agree the statement "Java make thinks
harder" - when the universe is restrict to Sun and you left outside the
open source projects that make thinks easier.

The point is: open source projects (with quality) is valuable to a
plataform, and should be considered for any plataform that makes sense.
