Just use a "/" in you group identifier. E.g.
<dependency>
<groupId>merlin/test</groupId>
<artifactId>merlin-unit</artifactId>
<version>3.2.1-dev</version>

we could for example still use the groups as we are, but implement the hierarchy with dots
