Yeah but do me a favor and define your notion of API and SPI for me.  I want to make 
sure we are inline before we begin.

Not me.  BTW if the implementation switches from using Property file artifacts for 
attributes to hitting an LDAP server the SUN JNDI provider is available out of the box 
with JDK1.3 and up.  Hence it will not add weight to the bootstrapping jar - just a 
heck of a lot of power in a small package.
