Actually - I would suggest that software developers study basic social psychology. If you do anything in collaborative systems, agent technologies, peer-to-peer, etc. The guys and girls in the social psychology domain have nailed this stuff down tap.
Beyond that - the girls from the social science department know a bunch more about forking than anyone here in Avalon.
