I'm going to put some time into finishing the new Avalon web site over the next couple of days. In particular, I'm planning on dropping any content marked "to-be-done", shake things around based on available content so things are tighter, and basically aim for something we can publish by the end of the week as a pre-release.
If anyone has content or modifications to add - now would be a great time to jump in and hit the xdocs.
Couple of questions:
1. Site update process: what do we have planned? Do we want to setup a cron job that extracts the latest from SVN like we had for CVS?
2. Existing site documents: I'm assuming we're planning on just keeping what's there for the moment. That is, something like http://avalon.apache.org/logkit won't change, right?
A frequent complain is that the documentation is spread out all over the place. With the updates there is a lot of consolidation - for example logkit docs appear under avalon logging's logkit plugin (reflecting consistency relative the single platform strategy).
3. We've had an excessive number of 404's in the past. As we update the site, we'll need to keep an eye on errors, redirects, and missing information.
What we really need is:
(a) an Avalon 404 page
(b) some mechanisms to get details of the 404 addresses
(because right now we have no idea where these 404s
are originating)Anyone have any suggestions on the above items?
Cheers, Steve.
