You describing the use of one of several artifacts produced by Avalon. While I don't dispute the the benefits arising from the use of the artifact in questions, this is no different from the use of the avalon logging system, the composition framework, the activation platform, the repository system, etc.
The fact that an artifact is used (and in some cases abused), does not in and of itself make a case for a product within the scope of our charter. As we move forward the distinction between technical artifacts and product will become increasingly clear. Technical artifacts will become minor subjects relative to the complete Avalon solution.
However, if someone wants to create framework as product - they are free to do so - just don't call it Avalon and don't do it here - because framework in isolation is not what Avalon is about.

I've used the framework jar in more than one product in isolation. Sometimes it is just to use the configuration api (which I happen to like a lot). Sometimes it is to reuse Avalon components in a non-Avalon application (that is, I still need to have the framework jar in my other app due to lifecycle interface imports). Sometimes I end up writing something that uses Avalon lifecycles but isn't a container per say (like JingDAO).
All these are cases of using the Avalon framework jar as an independent library without regard to specifications or whatnot. In other words, being used as a "product" independent of any other Avalon container or software.
And I know I'm not the only one.
Therefore to me and to the users and developers I work with, the framework should be a product.
