It looks like the artifacts in Maven are OK. See
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/avro/avro-mapred/1.7.3/
So as a workaround you can use the artifacts from there.
I wonder if there's an error in the way the JARs are propagated to the
distribution directory. I'll look at that next week.
