Sean Busbey commented on AVRO-1847:
-----------------------------------

{code}

-    Conversion<?> conversion = SPECIFIC
-        .getConversionFor(schema.getLogicalType());
-    if (conversion != null) {
-      return conversion.getConvertedType().getName();
+    if (enableLogicalTypes) {
+      Conversion<?> conversion = SPECIFIC
+          .getConversionFor(schema.getLogicalType());
+      if (conversion != null) {
+        return conversion.getConvertedType().getName();
+      }
{code}

I think this makes this patch a breaking change for users with schemas that
contain e.g. date, time, or timestamp logical types right? since before by
default they would get the logical type and not the backing raw representation.

Anyone have opinions on this? it would mean 1.9+ only.

> Version 1.8.0 has added the support of logical types. A conversion class
> (Conversions.DecimalConversion) has also been added for decimal type.
> However, the IDL compiler still uses ByteBuffer for decimal types, which is
> not the same behaviour as data, time or timestamp type (added in AVRO-1684).
