Ahem, yes, I know, developers in general seem not to care about the

Well, it's not that we don't care, but as long as we have to work
on the
OOXML filter, the usability problems in Writer and also some other
long
outstanding RFEs adding 3rd party bibliography support can't be a high
priority. I hope you understand that. I think it's interesting
enough to
evaluate it and see how it fits into the ODF stuff we have planned
to do
in the near future.
Yes, yes; I meant of course, that you care relatively less about it
than other things.
Note, too that you mention RFEs and priority levels. Someone recently
pointed that it's a little strange that bibliographic enhancements
are the second highest requested feature in OOo, and yet is ranked
far down the list of priorties.
So the question is how we can best make this happen given the
resource constraints all around?
I really don't want to get in the middle of some OOo vs. KOffice
conflict here.
I don't see that conflict. Developers just love to discuss some nasty
details at times. :-)
Right; just noting that the discussion was detouring into that.
Any suggestions on how best to move this along
productively? My colleague David Wilson has posted the requirements
he sees (though I've had time to look at them in depth), and I've
noted that ZOOM may well provide a ready made API complete with
freely available code.
Once we have done the ODF stuff for bibliography and get it
implemented
into OOo I'm open for starting with the SOAP interface as shown in the
Word Add-In.
Right, I think we all agree we need the new citation field and
metadata support in ODF for this to work well. Am fine with deferring
until that happens.
Our primary question at that point should be whether the ZOOM API and
code would work.
Do you think that it fits into the way we want to describe
bibliographic data in ODF?
I work a lot with the Zotero guys (they use some of the stuff I
developed for OOoBib, like the citation style language). I don't
think we'll have any problems working out details on their end.
