   >>_Perhaps you don't need to push this upstream but instead add a new
structure to this project and host all the code changes here as a management
pack? (They're just supposed to be tarballs that you can throw into other
ambari's, not tied to a release.)

@mattAndruff Does the Mpack tarballs you mentioned aboved look like
`xxx-mpack-1.0.0.0-xxx-ambari-mpack.tar.gz` which would be built by `mvn clean
package -DskipTests` under the path of `contrib/management-packs/xxx-mpack` ?

   >> _If they are to be shipped with ambari then it's supposed to be a stack
and not a management pack._
   >> _So they should be in fact separate entities that exist outside an ambari
install._

This Bigtop-mapck is located in ambari `contrib/management-packs/` where
some other Mpacks are.
I found that neither the ODPI-mpack nor this Bigtop-Mpack would work
properly on all Ambari verision which supports mpack feature.
What you mean is that the Mpack should be packed as a tarball and could work
properly on any version of Ambari, right? The Mpack should not depend on a
specific version of Ambari.
But this Bigtop-Mpack is based on Ambari-2.6.1 and it seems Bigtop-Mpack
doesn't work on Ambari-2.7. Maybe I miss something when developing this
Bigtop-mpack.
