@aledsage I think you are right the documentation is a bit confusing. I've
manually installed `iptables-persistent` and on ubuntu 12.04 it starts also a
service which I assume it is able to persist changes as they happen, but I
can't find a good source for it more official than
http://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/wiki/Saving_Iptables_Firewall_Rules_Permanently
