Hi all,

BuildStream 2.7.0 and its dependencies have now been accepted into Debian's unstable/sid distribution.

Consequently, it should be possible to "just" `apt install buildstream` in the next releases of Debian and Ubuntu, and have a working BuildStream 2.x setup without the relatively high barriers of building buildbox from source, or managing fiddly Python environments.

We have some CI in Debian to verify that the BuildStream package can build the example projects in upstream documentation, but please do not hesitate to report any bugs you find to the Debian bug tracker.

You can also keep up to date with the status of the Debian package on the tracker, and I will endeavour to keep it in a good state as a co-maintainer [1].

Thank you to the BuildStream and Debian developers who generously assisted with this work and sponsored my uploads.

Kind regards,

Theodore
