Hi,
I can only agree with what Ralf has described below. For any open source
project it is essential to see users/community members contribute to the
project in one or the other way. GSoC definitely has made a difference
for us in the past few years, and I'd like to see this continued.
As such, I'd like to see as much feedback as possible with regards to
the project ideas described at
http://gsoc.codehaus.org/Castor+Ideas
In addition, I think that it's the users of this project and its product
offerings that would ideally qualify to work with us during the summer
(holiday) period on improving Castor and extending it to uncovered
territory. In other words, if there's users of Castor out there that
qualify for Google's SoC program, please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us.

as you may know we participated at Google summer of code during the last
2 years. In the first year we got one slot for the implementation of our
DDL generator. Even if one student fail in the second year, we had 2
more slots that had been very successful. One of them improved our code
generator which now is able to use velocity, while the second worked at
JAXB compatibility.
While the students of the first 2 projects contributed only a little
after GSoC, is the third still an active committer for Castor. For me
this is a great success for Castor and GSoC.
This year codehaus has again applied as mentoring organization to GSoC
and we are confident this application gets accepted. To get recognized
by students we are preparing project ideas at the moment.
