Nice. But given that almost anynoe I know i susing 5.0 in production (or higher), I don't think it's necessary to wait until after the 1.3 release.
We have asked them numerous times, and so far I still have to see a single email that asks us to keep compatibility. Anybody wishing to use Castor with Java 1.4 can do so, with Castor 1.2 and below.
