All, Java8 is targeted for post 4.9. Oracle provides an official PPA for Java6, Java7, Java8, and Java9 [1] that supports Ubuntu 14.04. It is important to bear in mind that Java7 was EOL’ed on April 2015 [2]. In my opinion, the recent history of Java vulnerabilities dictates that we cannot allow a particular distribution’s failure to update their to supported JDK place our user community at risk.
