I was not talking about this case explicitly, I just gave the general answer for handling incompatible changes. However, it's up to us (the community) if we bend the rule in special cases. For example if a bug introduces a wrong behaviour and we fix the bug we have an incompatible change, but in this case it's mostly ok to apply the fix. If a change will not infect anyone, it might be ok as well and so on. - again I'm not speaking of this special case.
