I tried to stay out of this but...

either it is a "file?system alteration monitor" or a "file alteration
monitor" ... also known as "FAM"

IMO "FileMonitor" does not really express what it does. Nor will users
search for it like that.
I am not sure why we try to come up with our own special name here.

Guess I am the one to blame for the spelling.
