I tried to stay out of this but... either it is a "file?system alteration monitor" or a "file alteration monitor" ... also known as "FAM" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_alteration_monitor IMO "FileMonitor" does not really express what it does. Nor will users search for it like that. I am not sure why we try to come up with our own special name here.
