As many of you know, GNOME has been running an Outreach Program for Women for a few years now. They've had great success at attracting and keeping talented women in our community with the program (improving the participation of women in GNOME such that in just three years they jumped from 4% to 17% participation at GUADEC) and have expanded the program so that other free software organizations can join us and do the same.
The program is structured like Google Summer of Code but we have two rounds per year, which is nice for students in the southern hemisphere. The current round has 25 interns participating across 10 free software organizations. Two other orgs have signed up or participated in the past, and there are already at least another two new orgs coming in for this next round. It's inspiring to have so many free software organizations working together to help constructively address a problem we all share. Anyone here want to admin ASF participation? NOTE: we would need to raise some cash to make this happen. The ASF does not pay for software development and this programme is about software development. However, we might be able to find someone else willing to pay and we provide the mentor(s). finding the money would also need to be done by the admin, but I'm sure help will be available. https://live.gnome.org/OutreachProgramForWomen#For_ Organizations_and_Companies -- Ross Gardler (@rgardler) Programme Leader (Open Development) OpenDirective http://opendirective.com
