I spoke with the CHAOSS folks at Open Source Summit in Vancouver, and they really want us (the ASF, and especially Kibble) to participate. They'll be having a thingy at FOSDEM, and would appreciate ASF folks being there to steer the ship a little.

Hi All

I’ve posted a couple of threads on the Kibble dev list that might be quite
relevant to ComDev as it is related to open source community health and also
community metrics.

https://chaoss.community/

The Community Health Analytics Open Source Software (CHAOSS) community has been
setup to look at metrics for measuring the health of open source communities
and also provide a common standard for developing software to measure these
metrics.. They have several working groups that are looking at defining the
metrics and are keen to get other participants from open source communities. At
the moment their two key working groups are around:

- Diversity and Inclusion
- Growth, Maturity and Decline

A few weeks ago I attended the Growth, Maturity and Decline workgroup meeting
on behalf of the Kibble project since we’d like the Kibble to be aligned with
any standard metrics for open source community health. My notes from the
meeting are here:

https://s.apache.org/d14l

I’ve also started a discussion for us to start reviewing Kibble against the
existing CHAOSS metrics to see if we already conform so could be listed as a
known software implementation the metric.

I think it would be good to take a look at the Diversity and Inclusion
workgroup too as we have had many discussions on this list in the past about
how to measure how inclusive and diverse a community is.

If anyone is interested in these topics then please feel free to join the
conversation over on the Kibble dev list.

Thanks
Sharan
