Hi Gabriel,

It's been a while since I've involved in the donation of a project to
an exiting Apache project, but here are some initial thoughts and
tips.

If this donation proceeds, it will need to go through the ASF IP
clearance process, Documentation is at
https://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/. You can look at previous
examples such as DataFusion and Comet being donated to the Arrow
project.

I have not been following the project closely, but IIRC, one of the
considerations is whether the project has a strong community behind
it, not just from one company. Perhaps this is already the case.

I suspect the main question will be how it relates to Ballista, which
is another distributed version of DataFusion that has been developed
under DataFusion governance for quite some time. To be clear, I don't
object to datafusion-distributed being another alternative, but I know
the question will arise. Is there a strong reason to bring in a
competing project rather than contributing to an existing project?
Again, I haven't looked closely at the project, but it seems like the
main difference might be around some features such as more flexible
exchange strategies rather than any fundamental differences in
approach. It would be good to understand the differences between the
projects' goals, but that is just my opinion.

I hope that helps.

Andy.
