Hi, I wasn't sure whether to add these comments directly to the issue, or if here might be a better spot. They could be moved.
It seems to me that the crux of the issue is this: The need for for a rowset that can have certain fields flagged as display only. The problem with server side default values is only one instance where this would help, another being calculated fields in the rowset.
