So you might be happy to read that with issue 78987, a possibility to
switch off this behaviour has been implemented. Issue 80930 is about
introducing an UI for it.

If there is no control at all in the form bound to this field, then
everything is fine. If there is a control, then it must in fact be
editable. I assume that is what you meant here?
