Emmanuel Lécharny created DIRAPI-469:
----------------------------------------
Summary: BER indefinite-length octet 0x80 silently decoded as zero
length
Key: DIRAPI-469
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIRAPI-469
Project: Directory Client API
Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 2.1.8
Reporter: Emmanuel Lécharny
Fix For: 2.1.9
An attacker who can inject a *PDU* inspected by a conforming *BER* parser
(*LDAP*-aware firewall/audit tap) and then decoded by this codec encodes a
security-relevant element (a control, an extended-op value) with indefinite
length.
The inspection layer parses the real nested contents while this codec sees an
empty element followed by stray *TLVs* — the two layers disagree about the
message. Without a second parser in the path it degrades to a spec-conformance
defect.
