Nothing is outside the scope. We asked for brainstorming. We won't
complain when we do. ;-)
Although it is probably outside the scope of this update, can I
suggest that the number of FAQ pages on the OOo site be reduced to
one? Also, there are links to two different FAQ pages on the present
DOC Project page and this new sample. (Nice look, btw.)
So far, I have found links to FAQ pages at
http://user-faq.openoffice.org/,
http://www.openoffice.org/faq.html, and
http://documentation.openoffice.org/faqs/index.html.
The thought with these, was that eventually, everything would be taken
care of on User-FAQ. The editing for the User-FAQ project is handled by
going to <http://oooauthors.org/en/FAQs> and signing in.
You can see the static representation of this at
<http://user-faq.openoffice.org/new-faq/index.html>. I have been
debating on whether or not this move is a good one, or would require
more work on the part of contributors. If we could get some adventurous
soul to help figure this out, it would help greatly.
I have written a script in perl that pulls the FAQs from oooauthors and
converts them to what you see on User-FAQ, so things on User-FAQ would
rely on OOoAuthors FAQ area. I am not sure how well the history works
on FAQ items for PLONE, but that would need to be looked into as well,
in case a script kiddie decides to play.
These links depend upon where one starts
Although there is some repetition between them, they all appear to be
separately maintained.
www.openoffice.org/faqs is maintained by Louis Suarez Potts, I believe.
User-FAQ is a project I helped start, and have been playing around with
since the other person that worked on it hasn't had time.
The idea is that User-FAQ would be all FAQ items from Documentation,
with an easy way to keep them updated by multiple users. Thus the
off-site program for updates.
This thread brought the matter back to my attention. If this matter
requires another issue to be filed, I can do that.
