Hey, neat a quasi-canuk. Good, you should be used to our different
spelling. One task that needs a keeper is the Troubleshooting
Guide/Chapter. Is this something that you could take on? I collect such
stuff but never seem to have time to put it in the document.
You can check out the existing edition at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/misc/Troubleshooting_guide.htm
BTW, there is an instance of "straight forward" for straightforward
<http://www.thefreedictionary.com/straightforward> in the OOo User
Guide. I didn't note its location, though. Is that Canadian, perchance?
Gary
I suppose is is possible but I cannot find it it the master source.
Please give chapter and verse and page number in the pdf. I ask because
doing a search for all instances of straight in acroread did not give
the result you claim to have found.
I noticed it in the PDF. Maybe it has since been corrected. Where are
the source files for that guide located? I'll check it when I return
later today--family visits, etc.
Gary
Aside from the master copy I keep locally, you can get them from the
issue link in the right-hand panel with the PDF link on
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/index.html
or go directly to the issue
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/index.html
You will notice on the issue there is a master document and a bunch of
chapters. These are also in need of updates, particularly screenshots
and maybe some icons, although by using the default icon set mostly
eliminates this problem, and the text. I am working on the Writer
chapter but am also accepting revisions for others so long as they
remember to enable Record and Show changes. Scott Carr, our lead, is
working on the Base chapter but you should ask him on the list whether
or not he need/wants collaboration.
You must have had a "short" in your search engine (or else we're
comparing two different docs). The one I downloaded recently was:
[OpenOffice.org User Guide for 2.0]; [0.15]; First edition:
[2005-04-11].
The culprit lurks on page 97: "Creating a new Style on the basis of an
existing Style is a straight forward process."
Gary
AHA! you want it as one word! Then you are right, I use two words but I
suppose you want me to fix the errors. Is this correct or are you
willing to go into
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=29679 and help? BTW, I
meant you to have this link earlier but I see my clipboard fouled up.
Looking at the complete file might look easiest but I suggest that you
collect the latest .odm from the issue and the latest chapters and work
with these. As you complete a chapter attach it to the issue and that
way I can integrate it with anything that I have locally.
About the Troubleshooting HOW-TO, are you willing to take it on? Let me
know either way. The HOW-TO is actually the text from chapter 14 of the
guide massaged for a HOW-TO so I and/or you should keep these in sync.
ger
OK, I could take on that How-To. I will also take care of the "straight
forward" problem in a straightforward manner.
AFAIK, I strongly suspect that "straight forward" (two words) is an
English usage error and that its two-word form shouldn't ever be used.
BTW, there's an amusing web site for "eggcorns" or "egg corns" for
"acorns," in case anybody is interested: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/.
I added a couple entries to its data base myself from some recent
readings: "sales edicate" for sales etiquette and "by enlarge" for "by
and large".
