Chapter 12: Working with Templates
I propose to combine the chapters on templates and styles, and remove
some of the detail in some of the instructions, which are very
repetitious and simplistic. Also I think that since templates and
styles are so fundamental to the way OOo works, it would be good to
put the combined chapter earlier in the book, perhaps right after
"Setting up OOo" and before "GS with Writer", or perhaps before
"Setting up OOo".
Chapter 13: Working with Styles
Combine with chapter on templates.
Either the Getting Started or the Writer Guide (or both) needs some
practical instructions for (bulleted) list and numbering list styles
used in coordination with the predefined paragraph and list styles: List
1, List 1 Start, List 1 Cont., and List 1 End for the first-level
bulleted lists, for example.
However, the predefined styles need modifications in order to apply them
in the manner I define them. But, that too would be worth-while from an
instructional POV. Our own (OOoAuthors) manuals were remiss in using
them and, instead, used manual overrides for lists in the guides. It
would be beneficial if we ate our own home cooking and avoided using
manual overrides for our lists, unless totally necessary.
